I was an associate degree student and studying in the last semester three years ago. I remember I was so nervous, stressful and worried about my future at that period, I was struggling about should I go out and find a job or should I continue my study? I got tons of questions on my mind, but luckily I met Joshua, he helped me a lot and gave me a lot of useful academic advices in the last three years. Now I’ve already finished my undergraduate degree in Media practice in the University of Sussex, and have been accepted by HKBU for a Master degree in Producing for Film, Television and New Media in the coming September. If you are still reading, it means maybe you would interested on my story and maybe you would like to spend three more minutes to continue reading the below part which is about my study life in United Kingdom.

First thing first, to study in United Kingdom is much more fun than in Hong Kong, as I was not directly study the undergraduate degree in my first year instead of a course named “International year one- IY1”. The reason of why Joshua suggested me to study in IY1 for my first year instead of a regular year one is because of ‘adaption’. As IY1 provided us as small class education and mainly study with international student and that allows us to build up a better language and academic skills. Unlike the regular year one, IY1 gave us a chance to ‘learn’, as there are only around 20 students in a class and it would have more chance to ask tutors questions and they are all willing to help me. About the course I study, It was “International Year One Media and Film Studies” after this course the University would allow us to choose in few different course and my decision was “Media practice”. Unlike Hong Kong, to study in United Kingdom you will need more self-participation as the tutor would not force you to do your work, but I believed you would try your best at that point. In addition, “Media practice” is a course without any exam instead of practice project and essays, so if you really don’t like exam and fell interested on film editing, photos shooting or producing digital media, “Media practice” may be one of your choice.

As I choose my main core course as producing documentary, I got a lot of experience on film making in the last three years, and I learnt a lot of skills that I didn’t learnt in Hong Kong. On the other hand, language is also very important, as I know I was weak in English before, therefore I spend a lot of time to communicate with native speakers and at the last year I lived with local students. I cannot say it is easy to get a degree in United Kingdom, but I would definitely say if you try your best, you could do it just like me.

In the coming year, I’ll study in a Master degree in Producing for Film, Television and New Media in HKBU and would like to work in media or marketing industry in the future. Three years ago I was worried about my associate degree and now I can be a master student I am so glad to have the help from AAC and Joshua, otherwise I may not have the reward I got now. This is my real story and I hope I’ll see yours one day, and hopefully is three years later. Thanks for reading.
